Mosquito season is gearing up. VDCI has been hard at work larviciding since April and trapping and testing since mid-May. As always, the trap data is available on their website and is updated every Friday.
A pool of mosquitoes from Norwich Township tested positive for West Nile virus last week. It seems a bit early but we know there is West Nile virus in mosquitoes and birds in some of our neighboring states. There is also the possibility the mosquito may have overwintered. On-going weekly trapping and testing will help monitor any increases in WNV activity. Regardless, it is a good time to empty standing water and take personal protection steps when they are outdoors.
