City of Whitehall & Huntington Bank Announce 'My Home' Program to Help Homebuyers

CWH _W_ CMYKCOLUMBUS, OHIO (September 21, 2017)  The City of Whitehall and Huntington Bank are teaming up once again to help make it easier for central Ohioans to call Whitehall home. Both the city and Huntington have reinstituted the ‘My Home’ down payment assistance program by making available $60,000 to qualified buyers for payments of 4 percent of the purchase price (up to $5,000) on homes within Whitehall city limits.

“There’s no better time to reintroduce the ‘My Home’ Program,” said Whitehall Mayor Kim Maggard. “We’ve received dozens of requests to continue the program since fall 2014 and are grateful Huntington has stepped up to fund half of the program’s current allocation.”

“With more than $3 million in recent infrastructure investment improving our northern gateway from John Glenn International Airport, and more than $60 million in public/private investment breathing new jobs and life into our community, now is an ideal time for central Ohio residents to call Whitehall home,” added Maggard.

Huntington_Logo_2C_4CThe City of Whitehall has invested more than $250,000 since first introducing the ‘My Home’ Program in partnership with Huntington in 2012. As a result, 72 homeowners received an average of $3,368 in down payment assistance. Moreover, the average sale price of a Whitehall home increased by 29.2% between 2012 and 2016.

“The City of Whitehall has taken a comprehensive approach to renewing and transforming its entire community under the leadership of Mayor Maggard and her administration,” said Huntington Bank Central Ohio President Sue Zazon. “A thriving residential population and strong neighborhoods are essential for ensuring an inclusive and vibrant community. By embracing innovative public/private partnerships like the ‘My Home’ Program, the City of Whitehall is making a lasting difference – and Huntington is proud to play a role in helping people.”

In addition to down payment assistance, Huntington will be partnering with local Housing and Urban Development-certified Housing Counseling Agencies to provide homebuyer education, if needed, to prepare mortgage applicants for the steps necessary to purchase a home.
